On July 2, 2019, the Trump administration announced that they have abandoned their attempts to include a citizenship question to the 2020 Census.
Mayor Jenny Durkan sent this message to the members of the Seattle Census Task Force:
Developing reports indicate that the Trump administration has dropped its effort to include a citizenship question on the 2020 Census. This is a massive victory, and it shows what we can do when we stand together and fight back against this administration’s continued dishonesty and cruel and politically motivated attacks on our communities.
We know that a significant amount of damage has already been done, and we have a lot of work ahead of us. But, on behalf of the City of Seattle, please accept my deep gratitude to each of you for your work to fight for the rights and dignities of our communities.
To the work ahead.
